So I got a refurbished computer and I am looking on my settings then suddenly my computer monitor turns off on me, so I pressed the off and on to get the screen back then the screen turns back off in 3 seconds while still in the setting menu area. How to I stop that from turning off on me while looking at things. It turns off then I turn it back on then it turns off in seconds again. How do I fix it!

Hi @Pawsquirrel,
Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for the First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I see from the post that you are having issues with the monitor screen goes off, don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Could you provide me with the product number? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...)
Have you followed the steps suggested in the previous post?
In the meantime, while you respond, please try these steps here:
Open windows Control Panel, open Personalization, click the Screen saver link in the bottom right and in the following window, adjust the time in the 'Wait' box to a time you want before the screen saver appears and click Apply. Or if you prefer never to get the log-on screen, remove the tick next to 'On resume, display logon screen'. Click Apply to save the change.
Next, open Windows Control Panel again and click Power Options, click the Change plan settings link next to your currently selected power plan and in the following window adjust the time using the drop-down box next to 'Turn Off Display' to a more acceptable setting and then click Save Changes.
Note: Set the time in the Power Options menu to be slightly longer than the time you set in the Screensaver Menu or you will never see your screensaver start.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hi @Pawsquirrel,
Thank you for replying,
I appreciate your time and efforts,
As I understand you tried to follow the steps suggested and unfortunately not able to find the settings, don't worry I'll guide you through the steps:
On the desktop screen - Right click and from the drop down click on Personalize - On the left pane - Click on Lock Screen - On the Right side scroll down and then first click on Screen timeout settings - Here you have 2 options first one being Screen and second being Sleep click on the right drop down and choose the time.
Once again follow the same steps and instead of Screen timeout settings Click on Screen Saver settings - you have the wait time, go ahead and choose the time that you wish to change. Once done, click on Apply and then OK.
Next, open Windows Control Panel again and click Power Options, click the Change plan settings link next to your currently selected power plan and in the following window adjust the time using the drop-down box next to 'Turn Off Display' to a more acceptable setting and then click Save Changes.
If you are still unable to find the settings, I would personally suggest you contact our HP phone support, so that they can remotely take control of your PC and help you check the settings.
Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
Keep me posted for any other assistance,
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts,
