I’ve had this HP M22F monitor for a few weeks and I’ve noticed that the color/display quality is not that great compared to my MacBook Air screen and my windows laptop screen(not shown). In the example image is below I have it set to mirror screen however, I usually have my Monitor set to main display so I can close my laptop screen but I wanted to show both displays side-by-side for a comparison. The difference in brightness and color is noticeable when watching dark things on screen. Are there any settings that I don’t have set correctly or that I should change in order to have a screen that’s mostly similar to my laptop display as I plan to
use this monitor for a lot of graphic design work and I need the colors to be accurate. The brightness on my monitor, and my laptop screen are both turned to 100%. I’m not sure if this is something that I can fix or if I’m stuck with it.

Hi @Cece151,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing a noticeable difference in brightness and color quality between your HP M22F monitor and your laptop screen, there are a few things you can check and adjust to improve the situation.
Monitor Settings:
- Access the monitor's on-screen display (OSD) menu. This is typically done using physical buttons on the monitor.
- Check if there are any preset display modes or color profiles. You might find options like "Standard," "sRGB," or "User" modes. Experiment with different modes to see if any of them bring the monitor's colors closer to your laptop display.
- Look for brightness, contrast, and color temperature settings in the OSD menu. Adjust these settings to see if you can match the monitor's output with your laptop screen.
Calibration:
- Consider calibrating your monitor using a hardware calibration tool. This ensures accurate colors by measuring the actual output of your monitor and adjusting it accordingly.
Graphics Settings:
- Check your computer's graphics settings to ensure that the color profiles for both displays are the same. On Windows, you can do this by right-clicking on the desktop, selecting "Display settings," and then ensuring that both displays are using the same color profile.
- On a Mac, you can go to "System Preferences" > "Displays" > "Color" and choose the same color profile for both displays.
Driver Updates:
- Ensure that your graphics drivers for both your laptop and the monitor are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
Check Cable and Connection:
- Make sure you are using a high-quality video cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) to connect your monitor to your laptop. A poor-quality cable can impact display quality.
Ambient Lighting:
- Consider the ambient lighting in your workspace. The perception of colors can be influenced by the lighting conditions. Try to have consistent lighting for both your laptop and the external monitor.
Color Management Software:
- Some operating systems have built-in color management settings. Ensure that these settings are configured correctly to maintain consistent color across displays.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
