Hi,

My Z27 display incorporates an USB hub. I wonder if this hub is self-powered (via the display's power supply), or the power has to be supplied by the bus coming from the computer.

This is different, because if you can only rely on bus power, you can be very careful on what you connect. In case, maybe I can use a self-powered USB hub from the computer, to power all the devices connected to the Z27 USB ports.

What do you think?

On my Z27n G2 monitor the USB hub is powered by the monitor.  I just verified this by disconnecting the USB-C cable and the ports still had power.

While I may work for HP Inc, the views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Thank you very much for your answer and the report of your experience!

I must have some other kind of issue in my configuration, however. After having tried to connect some USB devices requiring too much power in total, my Logitech webcam connected to one of the Z27 USB ports stopped working.

When I solved the power issue by redistributing the external drives on various self-powered USB hubs connected to the Mac, the webcam started working again. The webcam alone is requiring 500 mA.

Maybe there is still power asked to the bus, before the monitor can power the devices connected to it?
