Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have issues with 2 monitors in the office:

On 10/14, one of the monitors abruptly stopped working. This computer is set up with dual monitors, and the one on the left abruptly went black. The light in the lower right corner to indicate power also went dark, and the monitor does not respond. However, the PC still detects the monitor. Browser windows can be dragged over to it, and windows will try to open on that screen. The device manager says that all drivers are up-to-date and that the device is working properly.

Restarting the computer, readjusting plugs, etc. did not fix it.

Monitor 1 was taken to the other PC in the office to test, and trying to use it with another computer did not help either. And now, the monitor on the second PC that was unplugged during the test is ALSO not working. This is monitor 2.

THIS monitor still has it's power and screen working, but says that "HDMI is inactive" and that it can't detect the computer. The computer detects it just fine. The monitor was plugged back in exactly the way it was, and several troubleshooting methods online haven't helped at all.

Help with either of these monitors would be appreciated.

Hi @ShivMishra01,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation with both monitors. Let’s tackle them one at a time.

For Monitor 1 (Black Screen, No Power Light):

  • Power Connection: Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the wall outlet. If possible, try using a different power outlet or power cable.
  • Check Input Source: Sometimes, the monitor may not be set to the correct input. Use the monitor's menu button to cycle through the available inputs (like HDMI or DisplayPort) to ensure it's set to the right one.
  • Reset Monitor: If there's an option in the monitor’s menu, perform a factory reset. This can sometimes resolve issues like this.
  • External Hardware: If you have any external devices (like a docking station or adapter) connected to the monitor, try disconnecting them.
  • Test with Another Device: If you have another device (like a laptop), connect it to the monitor to see if it displays anything.

For Monitor 2 (HDMI Inactive):

HDMI Cable Check: Ensure that the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the computer. You could also try a different HDMI cable or a different HDMI port on your computer if available.

Input Source: As with the first monitor, check the input source to make sure it’s set to HDMI.

Graphics Drivers: Even if the device manager shows that drivers are up-to-date, it might help to uninstall the graphics driver completely and then reinstall it. You can do this by:

  • Right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expanding the "Display adapters" section, right-clicking your graphics driver, and selecting "Uninstall device."
  • Restarting your PC to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.

Windows Display Settings: Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings." Make sure both monitors are detected. You can also try clicking on "Detect" to see if it finds the second monitor.

Graphics Card Settings: If you have a dedicated graphics card, check its settings (like NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Software) to ensure that the second monitor is enabled.

If All Else Fails:

  • Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for the monitors on the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
