HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ey0000 (54J83AV)

Hi there,

my laptop just came in the post today but unfortunately the capital key on the keyboard seems to not work properly. It is taking some doing to press down on the key, more so than the rest of them. It’s causing me to not be able to use the capital key as it is so hard to use it, it will just stay on. It isn’t very sensitive which it should be. I’ve tried changing the settings but nothing will work. Could you please send another and return this one? I need this for next day too as I needed to use this one for my work today

Hi @Annais,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having a problem with the capital key (Shift key) on your HP ENVY X360 laptop's keyboard. If the key is not functioning properly and requires more force to press down than other keys, there could be a few possible reasons for this issue.

  • Key Stuck or Obstructed: There might be dirt, debris, or something else stuck beneath the key, preventing it from registering properly when pressed.
  • Mechanical Issue: The key's mechanism could be damaged, causing it to require more force to press down.
  • Software Issue: Sometimes, software-related problems can cause keypresses not to register correctly. However, given that the issue seems to be mechanical in nature, this might be less likely.

Here's what you can do to try to resolve the issue:

  • Check for Debris: Gently try to clean around the problematic key using a can of compressed air or a small brush. Make sure there is no debris that might be obstructing the key's movement.
  • Key Removal and Cleaning: If you feel comfortable, some laptop keys can be carefully removed and reattached. However, this can be tricky and should be done cautiously to avoid damaging the key or keyboard. Consult your laptop's user manual for instructions on how to safely remove keys.
  • External Keyboard: As a temporary workaround, you could also consider using an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard until the issue with the built-in keyboard is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
