Hi @GideonAkunkah

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your keyboard backlight isn't working and you're receiving a prompt about hotkey support when pressing Fn + F5 or Fn + F11, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Hotkey Service

  1. Ensure Hotkey Service is Running:
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Look for HP Hotkey Support. If it’s not running, right-click it and select Start. If it is running, try restarting it.

Update Drivers

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select it).
  • Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on your keyboard, and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Update HP Software:

  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers and software for your specific model.

Keyboard Settings

  1. Keyboard Settings in HP Command Center:
    • If you have HP Command Center or a similar utility installed, check the keyboard settings there to ensure the backlight is enabled.

Function Key Lock

  1. Check Function Key Lock:
    • Sometimes the function keys can be locked in a mode that disables the backlight. Try pressing the Fn key and the Esc key simultaneously to toggle the function key behavior.

BIOS Settings

  1. Check BIOS Settings:
    • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 or Esc at startup).
    • Look for keyboard backlight settings and ensure they are enabled.

Perform a System Reset

  1. Reset the Keyboard:
    • Turn off your laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery (if removable).
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Reconnect everything and power it back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
