I tried using my laptop this morning and the screen froze up, so I use the power button to restart it, except when I turned it back on the power button indicated it was on yet the screen was black and the caps lock button was blinking. I tried using the Gpt for help and all it's suggestions didn't work including hard reset and hitting windows+Ctrl+shift+B, I first tried to charge my laptop but they also didn't work

Hi @RhLydia
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for your detailed description—this issue is serious but not uncommon. The blinking Caps Lock light with a black screen on HP laptops typically signals a hardware-level fault, often related to:
- Corrupted BIOS
- Faulty or improperly seated RAM
- System board failure
Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve or identify the issue:
1. Identify the Blink Code
Count the pattern of blinks:
- Example: 5 long blinks + 3 short = Code 5.3
- Use HP Notebook PCs - Computer beeps or a light blinks during startup | HP® Support to match the code to the fault.
2. Perform an Embedded Controller Reset
This clears BIOS and power faults:
- Unplug AC power and remove battery (if removable).
- Hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect power and try turning it on.
3. Reseat or Replace RAM
This is the most effective fix for many users:
- Open the back panel and remove the RAM sticks.
- Clean the contacts gently and reseat them securely.
- If you have two sticks, test each one individually.
- If only one stick is present, consider replacing it with a compatible module.
4. Check for BIOS Recovery
Some HP laptops support BIOS recovery via key combo:
- Press and hold Win + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
- Release all keys and wait—if supported, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.
Let me know the exact blink pattern (e.g., 3 long, 2 short), and I’ll help you decode it and confirm the next steps.
