I am on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) laptop and have the black thunderbolt 3 cable connected to an HP envy 27 4k monitor.

It is driving me CRAZY that the quality/resolution on the 4k monitor is so poor and in some cases very blurry compared to my resolution and quality on my laptop.

I continue to get a warning each time I turn my laptop on with my monitor that the cable is unqualified. I also attached my display settings in the screen below.

ANY IDEAS, ADVICE? Is it working normally for anyone else with this setup? Is it the cable that sucks? Please help!

I have the same MacBook but the 2016 version and it has always worked. I haven’t had to do anything special, just plug it in and change the input on the monitor.

Within the past month though it’s just stopped working all together. Recognizes if something is plugged into the USB-C port but doesn’t display anything. Super frustrating.

@MacbookLaur & @RyanInWI Here's a few things you need to know when using an HP monitor with a Mac device:

HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors.

  • To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC.
  • The monitor should operate at 60Hz.The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment.
