Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I purchased memory upgrade with the same RAM as recommended by your supplier CRUCIBLE as well as expert in hp community  for my HP Touchsmart 520; replacing the TWO existing memory cardS (ELPIDA 2GB each) with TWO CRUCIBLE cards (4 gb each). I also replaced the battery. All the of the installation steps were easy to perform.

I hear the pc coming on, but the display is blank (black).

I then reinstalled the old memory cards and turned on pc, but again the screen is blank.

Sounds you caused some damages for your machine in the first place. I can't touch to your machine to find out where but please try to re-seat OLD RAM properly.
