I'm experiencing an issue with my monitor and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. When I power on my computer, the monitor flickers for a seconds and then goes completely black.

Here are the details of the problem:

Monitor Model: hp p27h g4 27inch monitor

Issue Description:

  1. When I first turn on my computer, the monitor flickers for a seconds(can see the normal monitor color and all in that second).
  2. After the flickering, the screen goes completely black.
  3. The power light on the monitor stays OFF, and there's no display.

Troubleshooting Steps I've Tried:

  • Checked all the cable connections (HDMI, power, etc.) and ensured they are secure.
  • Tried using a different HDMI cable.
  • Connected the monitor to another computer .
  • Updated the graphics drivers on my computer.
  • Tried a different power outlet.

Observations:
The issue persists regardless of the computer or cables used.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions on what I can try next?
Could this be a hardware issue with the monitor itself, or is there something else I should investigate?

Thanks in advance

Hi @RonRap,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with Monitor flickering.

Excellent description and a great diagnosis. It is greatly appreciated.

This could be a hardware issue. However, If your HP P27h G4 27-inch monitor is flickering on start and then going black, here are some troubleshooting steps to help identify and potentially resolve the issue:

Monitor Settings

Reset monitor settings:

  • Use the monitor's on-screen menu to reset to factory settings.

Check for proper input source:

  • Ensure the monitor is set to the correct input source (HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA).

Power Cycle

  1. Power cycle the monitor:
    • Turn off the monitor and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for about a minute before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Check for Updates

Update graphics drivers:

  • Ensure that your computer’s graphics drivers are up-to-date. Visit the manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) to download and install the latest drivers.

Check for monitor firmware updates:

  • Visit the HP support website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your monitor.

Hardware Issues

Inspect for physical damage:

  • Check for any visible damage on the monitor, cables, and ports.

Check power adapter:

  • If the monitor uses an external power adapter, ensure it’s working correctly.

Monitor and Display Settings

Adjust refresh rate:

  • Sometimes, incorrect refresh rates can cause flickering. Check your display settings and adjust the refresh rate to match the monitor's specifications.

Check resolution settings:

  • Ensure the computer's display resolution matches the monitor’s native resolution.

Environmental Factors

  1. Eliminate electrical interference:
    • Ensure there are no devices nearby causing electrical interference with the monitor.

Factory Reset

  1. Factory reset the monitor:
    • If you can access the on-screen display (OSD) menu, perform a factory reset.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with the monitor itself. In that case, it’s advisable to contact HP phone support for further assistance or consider warranty repair or replacement.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
