Got a brand new computer today, connected it to my existing monitor with a DP cable and it doesn’t get a signal, the computer and the monitor both turn on fine but the monitor doesn’t get a signal, tried multiple cables, turning them all on and off but I think the port might just be fried

Hi @EmTB

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you have recently received your new OMEN 16L Gaming Desktop TG03-0018nj and are experiencing an issue where the monitor does not detect a signal when connected using a DisplayPort (DP) cable. Since both the computer and monitor power on normally, please follow the troubleshooting steps below and share the Model number of your device.

Verify the correct DisplayPort connection

  • If your OMEN desktop has a dedicated graphics card, ensure that the DP cable is connected to the DisplayPort on the graphics card and not to the motherboard's video output ports.

Test the monitor input source

  • Use the monitor's on-screen menu to confirm that the input source is set to DisplayPort.
  • If the monitor has an Auto Detect option, enable it.

Reseat the DisplayPort cable

  • Turn off both the monitor and the desktop.
  • Disconnect the DP cable from both ends and reconnect it firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Power on the monitor first, then turn on the desktop.

Try an alternative display connection

  • If available, connect the system using an HDMI cable to determine whether the issue is isolated to the DisplayPort output.

Perform a hard reset

  • Shut down the computer completely.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the desktop and monitor.
  • Press and hold the computer's power button for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cables and try again.

Check for startup indicators

  • Observe whether the power LED behaves normally and listen for any beep codes during startup.
  • If the system appears to boot into Windows (for example, keyboard lights respond or you hear Windows startup sounds) but there is still no display output, the issue may be related to the graphics output.

Test with another monitor or TV

  • If possible, connect the desktop to a different display using DP or HDMI to rule out a compatibility issue with the current monitor.
  • If the monitor continues to show "No Signal" after completing the above steps, especially after testing multiple DP cables and confirming that the cable is connected to the dedicated graphics card, the issue may require further investigation. In that case, please share:
  • Whether the system has an HDMI output and if it provides a display.
  • The exact graphics card installed in the OMEN desktop.
  • Any LED blink patterns or beep codes observed during startup.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
