HP M22f FHD Monitor

Attempts at troubleshooting, and unplugging & re-plugging in the monitor has not fixed the issue. The screen blacks out here & there, quite often sometimes. What we are typing still shows up when the screen is no longer blacked out. Please help.

Hi @Twyla420,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP M22f FHD Monitor blacking out intermittently could be caused by several factors, such as connection issues, power supply problems, or even display driver conflicts. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check the Cable Connections

  • HDMI/DisplayPort Cable: Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the computer. If possible, test with a different cable to rule out a faulty one.
  • Power Cable: Verify that the power cable is securely connected and not loose or damaged. Test with another compatible power cable if available.

Test the Monitor with Another Device

  • Connect the monitor to a different computer or device. If the problem persists, it could indicate an issue with the monitor itself.
  • If the issue is resolved when using a different device, the problem might be with your computer's graphics card or drivers.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Go to the device manufacturer's website (e.g., Intel, AMD, NVIDIA) and update your display/graphics drivers to the latest version.
  • If you're using Windows:
    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Expand Display Adapters.
    3. Right-click your graphics card and choose Update Driver.
    4. Follow the prompts to update.

Adjust Power Settings

  • Ensure your computer or monitor isn’t set to enter power-saving mode too aggressively:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance.
    • Check the monitor's on-screen display (OSD) settings to disable any auto-sleep or eco mode.

Test a Different Power Outlet

  • Sometimes, unstable power supply can cause the monitor to behave erratically. Plug it into a different outlet or use a surge protector.

Reset the Monitor

  • Use the monitor's OSD menu to reset it to factory settings:
    1. Press the OSD button (usually located on the back or bottom of the monitor).
    2. Navigate to Settings > Factory Reset.
    3. Confirm the reset.

Inspect for Overheating or Physical Damage

  • Ensure the monitor has proper ventilation and isn’t overheating. Overheating can cause the screen to blank out intermittently.
  • Check for physical damage to the screen or connectors.

Check Resolution and Refresh Rate

  • Ensure your computer’s display settings are compatible with the monitor:
    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
    2. Ensure the resolution is set to the monitor’s native resolution (1920x1080 for the HP M22f).
    3. Click on Advanced Display Settings and set the refresh rate to 60Hz.

Test with a Different Monitor

  • Connect a different monitor to your computer to determine if the issue lies with the computer or the HP M22f.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
