Hi @VeeHarry
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your second monitor is not receiving a signal from your laptop, and it’s going into sleep mode. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
1. Check the Cable and Connections
- Ensure all cables are securely connected: Double-check that both ends of the video cable (HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, etc.) are securely plugged into the laptop and the monitor.
- Try a different cable: Sometimes the issue can be the cable itself. If you have a spare cable, try swapping it to see if the issue persists.
- Try a different port: If your laptop has multiple video output ports (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C), try connecting the monitor to a different port.
2. Check the Monitor's Input Source
- Monitor Input Source: Make sure the monitor is set to the correct input source (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2, DisplayPort) that matches the connection from your laptop. You can usually switch input sources by pressing a Menu or Input button on the monitor’s buttons or on-screen menu.
- Switch Inputs: On your monitor, try cycling through the available input options (usually by pressing a button like Input or Source).
3. Detect the Monitor on Your Laptop (Windows)
Sometimes, Windows may not automatically detect the second monitor. You can manually tell Windows to search for it:
- Right-click on your desktop and select Display Settings.
- Scroll down to the Multiple Displays section.
- Click Detect to force Windows to search for connected displays.
- Once detected, you can choose how to display the screen (duplicate, extend, or show on second monitor only).
4. Check Power Settings on the Monitor
- Some monitors go into sleep mode after a period of inactivity. Try moving the mouse or pressing a button on the monitor to "wake" it up.
- If the monitor has an auto-sleep function, you might want to check the settings in the monitor’s on-screen menu to see if it’s set to sleep too soon. This could be causing the issue.
5. Update Graphics Drivers
Outdated or missing graphics drivers can cause issues with external monitors.
- Open Device Manager: Press Win + X and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, then right-click your graphics card and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the prompts.
I hope this helps.
