HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-1150xt CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi. I set up my new HP Envy desktop with an older monitor. Worked great for a day or so, then the monitor turned all psychedelic. It is possible I modified the Win 11 Pro settings, such as selecting to allow Windows to control the color of the apps.

So thinking it was the monitor I replaced it, but exact same behavior. Before and after tripping pics below. Has anyone experienced this before, and if so do you have any advice for me? Thanks.

UPDATE:  As a last ditch effort prior to returning the desktop, I allowed the Intel Driver Assistant to replace the HP graphic drivers with native Intel drivers.  Intel warns that we probably shouldn't do that, but I did.  The Intel driver solved the problem.  We shall see if it continues to over time.

Hi @Tony_Czar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your desktop was experiencing a color rendering issue, likely related to graphics drivers or display settings. The "psychedelic" effect you described can be caused by driver conflicts, incorrect color settings, or GPU malfunctions. Your solution of replacing the HP graphic drivers with Intel's native drivers seems to have resolved the issue, which indicates it was likely a software-related problem rather than a hardware failure.

Here are some tips to ensure long-term stability.

  • Monitor Driver Updates: Keep an eye on HP's website for any updated drivers specifically optimized for your hardware. While the Intel drivers fixed the issue, HP’s drivers are usually customized to better fit their systems.
  • Revert to Previous Drivers: If the issue reoccurs, try reverting to the original HP drivers through Device Manager or by downloading them from HP’s support page.
  • Color Calibration Settings: Check your display's color calibration settings in Windows. The issue could have been related to color profiles automatically switching when Windows controlled app colors.
  • Monitor Connections: Ensure the monitor’s connections (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) are secure, and if possible, try a different cable to rule out any potential connection issues.
  • Intel Graphics Command Center: You can adjust various display settings through the Intel Graphics Command Center app. If needed, this might allow you to fine-tune colors further.

If the issue persists despite the driver switch, it may indicate a deeper issue with the GPU or power management. Keep testing and monitoring the performance!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
