Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have run into a problem when using my HP2408h monitor.

When I stop using my pc and the system effectively goes to sleep, the monitor will not 'wake up with a click of the mouse as it used to.

What I have to do now is to press the power button on the top of the monitor about 3 or 4 times for it to move from the amber colour to the blue one.  When the blue light first comes on, i get a message to say that the monitor is about to go into sleep mode.  If I then press it again and then click the mouse, it is at this point that the monitor kicks into life and I can use the pc again.

I have gone through the monitors own menu system but cannot resolve the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas on this please?

Many thanks.

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.

I reviewed the case regarding issues with the sleep mode. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 😉

Please follow the below steps:

Step 1: Enabling the Keyboard in Windows

Skip this step if the computer does not enter sleep mode or if the computer wakes unexpectedly.

Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:

  1. In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.

  2. Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.

  3. If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.

If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.

If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  1. Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.

  2. Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 😉

Hello Barachiel, thank you so much for your extremely quick respomse to my problem, it is very much appreciated.

Well firstly, I followed your instructions very carefully and, discovered that the relevant box for the keyboard was already checked within Device Manager and so no change was necessary there.   I then decided to have a look at the settings against the Mouse and, I found once again that the relevant box was also ticked here.

I then decided to check to see if there were any Windows updates available but got a message to say that my system was completely up-to-date.

This left me utterly confused.  I then thought I would give something else a try, I completely switched off everything, my whole system, pc, printer, speakers etc.  I pulled the plug from the socket and left it for a full 5 minutes before reconnecting it all.

I then put the system to sleep again via the 'Shut Down or Sign Out' option and then tried waking it up again, guess what, it worked a treat.  I have tried it numerous times and it continues to work.  What I haven't done yet is to allow the system to go to sleep by way of the time-out method, i.e. to walk away from it and let it go to sleep on its own.  I will try this as soon as I get chance and, if there is a problem I will re-post.

To summarise, I haven't got any idea why it has corrected itself because I did not have to make any changes to the settings that you suggested.  Do you have any further thoughts yourself?

Thanks again for your help with this.

@Bluenose1940,

I am responding on behalf of @Barachiel as he is out for the day. It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for keeping us posted.

Perfect, I am really glad to hear that the issue is resolved. I feel that it may be an issue with the static charge build up as you have mentioned that after disconnecting everything and then connecting everything back worked.

If any other questions arise, please feel free to write back to me.

Good day! Take care 🙂

Cheers!
