I have an HP laptop and two monitors. I can connect one monitor to the laptop via an HDMI cable, but not the second one. I've tried two different adapters but the computer does not locate the device. Wondering if the laptop is simply not compatible with more than one additional screen, if both the adapters are faulty, or if I am missing a step.

Hi @Blondie5000,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 is detecting one external monitor but not a second one. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm the laptop’s display output capability
This model has one HDMI port and does not natively support two independent external displays through HDMI alone.
Most 15s-fq2000 units support only one external monitor unless a special display technology is used.

Check the type of adapter being used
Standard USB-C to HDMI or USB-A to HDMI adapters will not work unless they support DisplayLink.
Passive adapters cannot create an additional display signal.

Identify whether the USB-C port supports video
On this model, the USB-C port (if present) is data-only and does not support DisplayPort Alt Mode.
This means USB-C to HDMI adapters will not output video directly.

Test with a DisplayLink adapter or dock
DisplayLink adapters use software to create an additional virtual display over USB.
Install the DisplayLink driver, then connect the second monitor through the adapter.

Check Windows display settings
Go to Settings → System → Display and click “Detect”.
Make sure “Extend these displays” is selected if the second monitor appears.

Update graphics drivers
Install the latest Intel graphics driver from HP’s support page for your model.
Outdated drivers can prevent external displays from being detected properly.

Power cycle all devices
Shut down the laptop and monitors completely.
Reconnect one monitor at a time and power them back on to reset detection.

I hope this helps.
