Hi @ABC1508,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What is the exact model of your HP laptop?
  • Which version of Windows are you currently running?
  • Do you have any third-party applications installed that use the camera (Zoom, Teams, virtual camera tools)?
  • Does the error appear immediately when launching Safe Exam Browser, or only when starting the exam?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check for Virtual Camera Drivers:
    • In Device Manager > Cameras and Imaging Devices, look for any entries besides your main HP camera.
    • Also check under Sound, video and game controllers for virtual camera drivers
  2. Disable Other Camera-Related Apps:
    • Close apps like Zoom, Teams, Skype, or OBS before launching Safe Exam Browser.
    • Some of these install virtual camera components that can trigger the error.
  3. Check Privacy Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
    • Ensure only Safe Exam Browser has permission to use the camera.
  4. Update BIOS and Drivers:
    • Run HP Support Assistant to update your BIOS and camera drivers. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause detection issues.
  5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
  • Restart and press Esc → then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Camera Test to confirm only one physical camera is detected.

I hope this helps.
