My monitor has started to flicker and/or go blank when i switch windows 11 user accounts. If i disconnect power and reconnect, it starts working fine for a while. In one instance, I just manipulated the power box that the main power cable is plugged into and the monitor worked again for a short time.
I have the latest drivers, and all other settings in both user accounts have not changed, so it doesn't seem likely to be anything but the monitor or its power source. The power module and all cables are the same as when the system was installed. Any ideas how to determine what the problem is? Could the power module have become defective? It is out of warranty, so HP is no help.

It sounds like your HP U32 4K HDR monitor may have a power-related issue, possibly with the power module, cables, or even internal components. Since you’ve already checked the drivers and settings, here are some troubleshooting steps to narrow down the root cause:
Check the Power Supply & Cables
- Try a different power outlet: If manipulating the power box helped, there could be an issue with the power outlet. Plug the monitor directly into another outlet.
- Inspect the power adapter & cables: Look for any frayed wires, loose connections, or damage. If possible, test with a different compatible power adapter.
- Use a different power strip/surge protector: If you’re using one, it might be failing. Plug the monitor directly into the wall.
Test with a Different Power Brick
- If your power adapter is removable, try using a replacement with the same voltage and current rating. A failing power module can cause flickering or intermittent blank screens.
Monitor-Specific Tests
- Reset the monitor: Unplug it completely for a few minutes and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds before reconnecting.
- Change the refresh rate: Go to Settings → Display → Advanced Display Settings and try setting a lower refresh rate (like 60Hz) to see if it stabilizes.
- Use a different input port/cable: If you're using DisplayPort, switch to HDMI (or vice versa) and see if the issue persists.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

The last thing I tried was to unplug the power at the back of the monitor and plug it back in. I also turned off the power setting that turned off the monitor after 30 minutes of inactivity. So far I haven't had any more problems with the monitor. I will later turn on the power setting again to see if that causes the problem to return. My suspicion is that the latest Windows 11 update to 24/h2, which occurred a few days before the monitor problem started, may have something to do with it. If I still don't have any recurrence of the problem I will assume the power plug at the back of the monitor may have needed to be reseated.
