I downloaded a BIOS update from Windows update and while it installing the screen went black. It has power but won't boot. The screen is still black.

Hi @Rocky8470 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the BIOS update might have gone awry, which can sometimes cause the system to become unresponsive or result in a black screen. Here’s a step-by-step approach to try and resolve this issue:
Power Cycle the PC:
- Turn off the computer completely by holding down the power button for about 10-15 seconds.
- Unplug the power cord and wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in and try turning the PC on.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect all peripherals (keyboard, mouse, etc.).
- Remove the power cord.
- Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to ensure any residual power is discharged.
- Reconnect the power cord and try turning the PC on.
Check for BIOS Recovery Options:
- Some HP desktops have a BIOS recovery feature that can be activated by pressing a specific key combination. For many HP PCs, this is done by pressing the Windows + B keys while powering on the PC. Hold the keys until the HP logo appears.
- If you see any prompts, follow the on-screen instructions to attempt a BIOS recovery.
Use HP’s BIOS Recovery Key (if applicable):
- If you have a USB drive and another working PC, you might try creating a BIOS recovery USB drive.
- Download the BIOS file for your model from the HP Support website.
- Follow the instructions provided by HP for creating a BIOS recovery USB drive and attempt to boot from it.
Check Hardware Connections:
- Ensure all internal components (RAM, hard drive, etc.) are properly seated. HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

I hope this helps.
