Hi @Spectre911,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Spectre 15 laptop is experiencing screen lag when you open Netflix or YouTube, and it has become slow in general, there could be several factors contributing to these issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to address these problems.
- Close Background Apps: Make sure that you don't have too many background applications running simultaneously. Close any unnecessary apps and processes that may be consuming system resources.
- Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause screen lag. Visit the HP website or use Windows Update to check for and install the latest graphics driver updates for your laptop.
- Clear Browser Cache: If you're experiencing lag while streaming in a web browser, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies. This can help improve the performance of online videos.
- Check Internet Connection: Slow or unstable internet connections can also cause video streaming issues. Ensure you have a stable and fast internet connection when streaming videos.
- Update Browser: Ensure your web browser is up to date. Sometimes, updating the browser can resolve performance issues.
- Disable Hardware Acceleration: In some cases, disabling hardware acceleration in your web browser settings can help. Go to your browser settings, locate the hardware acceleration option, and disable it.
- Scan for Malware and Viruses: Run a full system scan using your installed antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses that may be slowing down your laptop.
- Check for Software Updates: Make sure your operating system and all software (including Netflix and YouTube apps) are up to date. Updates can often improve performance and fix bugs.
- Adjust Power Settings: Check your laptop's power settings. Using high-performance mode may improve system performance but can drain your battery faster. You can adjust these settings in the Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (macOS).
- Check for Overheating: Overheating can cause performance issues. Ensure that your laptop is adequately ventilated and not covered by any obstructions. You may want to use a cooling pad if your laptop tends to get hot.
- Increase RAM and Storage: If your laptop has limited RAM or storage and you frequently run multiple applications, consider upgrading your RAM or adding more storage.
- Factory Reset (as a last resort): If none of the above solutions work, you may consider performing a factory reset of your laptop. Make sure to back up all your important data before doing this, as it will erase everything on your laptop and restore it to its factory settings.
If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing issues, it might be a hardware problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

It seems like you're facing some performance issues with your laptop when streaming videos on platforms like YouTube and Netflix. The screen lag and sudden slowdown could be due to various reasons. First, ensure your internet connection is stable and fast enough for streaming. Additionally, try clearing cache and cookies in your browser. If the problem persists, consider checking for background applications or extensions that might be consuming your laptop's resources. Alternatively, you can try using PikaShow 2023, a third-party streaming app known for smoother playback. It might help alleviate these issues and provide a better streaming experience on your 2023 Spectre laptop with 16GB of RAM.
