@ConnorRK800DAT, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
That sounds frustrating 😟. Based on your description, your HP Pavilion All-in-One (Product Number: M9Z60AA#ABA) is showing solid, distorted colors on boot, and apps or games don’t display correctly—just colored screens. You also mentioned this started after a system update, and someone suspected a magnet might have been nearby.
Let’s walk through the possible causes and solutions:
Perform a Hard Reset
Turn off the PC.
Disconnect the power cord from the back.
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back in and turn it on.
Check Display with External Monitor
If possible, connect an external monitor using HDMI.
If the external display works fine, the problem is likely with the internal display panel or ribbon connection.
If both displays show distortion, the problem is with the graphics driver or GPU hardware.
Boot into Safe Mode
Turn off the PC.
Turn it back on and press F8 repeatedly.
If the Recovery screen appears, choose:
Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart
Then select Safe Mode
In Safe Mode:
If things look normal, then it's definitely a driver or update issue.
Go to Device Manager > Display adapters
Right-click your GPU and choose Uninstall device
Check the box for "Delete the driver software" if it appears
Reboot and let Windows install the default Microsoft driver.
Roll Back Display Driver
If you can get into Safe Mode or normal mode with distortion:
Right-click Start > Device Manager > Display adapters
Right-click the display adapter (Intel or AMD)
Choose Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver
Use HP BIOS Recovery (if screen is unreadable)
If you cannot see anything clearly, try:
Turn off the PC
Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds
Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B
Wait for a BIOS recovery screen or beep
If the screen appears, follow prompts
System Restore or Reset
If the problem started right after a Windows Update:
Try booting into the Advanced Startup Menu by forcing the PC off during startup 3 times
Choose Troubleshoot > System Restore
Pick a restore point before the update
