I just bought this desktop PC:

HP Compaq Elite 8300 Base Model Small Form Factor PC

I am replacing my old HP with this one. The old computer has a HDMI port and the monitor I have has two HDMI ports and a DP port. These two together work fine.

The new computer does not have a HDMI port, only Din and usb ports. I bought a HDMI to USB 3.0 adapter cable and installed it between the monitor and the new PC. All I get is a message on the monitor screen that says "cable not connected"

Can someone please tell me what I need to do to fix this issue?

Hi:

 

The only suggestion I can offer would be to purchase either a display port cable and connect it from the PC's display port output to your monitor's display port input or purchase a display port to HDMI cable and connect that from the PC's display port output to your monitors HDMI input.

 

You can't get video out of the 8300 Elite's USB 3 port.

 

That is for USB data transfer only.
