HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-1020

I just installed a Gigabyte RTX 4060 card into my PC. Had some problems with sound coming out the monitor (Asus PA278QV,) whereas it should have been outputted via the stereo speakers. However, the issue was solved and all appears to be running well. At present the monitor is connected to the card via HDMI.

 

Although, the monitor's video is fine for my photo editing, I was wondering if connecting the monitor to one of the card's display ports would bring any "improvement?" And if there would be an improvement, please suggest the kind of cable that should be used. Thanks.

 

EDIT: From replies on my photo forum, it appears that using a display cable will not make any discernible difference. Therefore, I'll be staying with HDMI.

The choice of whether to connect your monitor to the graphics card via HDMI or DisplayPort depends on your specific requirements and preferences. Both HDMI and DisplayPort are capable of delivering high-quality video and audio signals, and for photo editing, you might not notice a significant difference in image quality between the two.

 

That being said, there are some technical differences between HDMI and DisplayPort that might influence your decision:

 

Resolution and Refresh Rate:

  • DisplayPort generally has a slight edge in supporting higher resolutions and refresh rates compared to HDMI. If you are working with a high-resolution monitor and need to utilize a higher refresh rate, DisplayPort might be a better choice.

Adaptive Sync (FreeSync/G-Sync):

  • If your monitor and graphics card support technologies like FreeSync or G-Sync for variable refresh rates, it's worth checking if one of the interfaces is preferred for these features. Some monitors and graphics cards may work better together with one interface over the other when it comes to variable refresh rates.

Cable Types:

  • For HDMI, make sure you are using a high-quality HDMI cable that supports the necessary bandwidth for your desired resolution and refresh rate. For DisplayPort, similarly, use a high-quality DisplayPort cable.

 

In your case, if the HDMI connection is working well and you are satisfied with the video quality and performance, there might not be a compelling reason to switch to DisplayPort. However, if you have a specific need for higher resolutions, refresh rates, or if you plan to use features like Adaptive Sync, you could try connecting via DisplayPort.

 

To connect your monitor to the DisplayPort on your RTX 4060 card, you'll need a DisplayPort cable. Make sure the cable is capable of supporting the resolution and refresh rate you desire. If you decide to switch, make sure to power off your PC before making the cable change.

Thanks 4 your excellent help. As I'm not 4K and my images look good, I'll  b sticking with hdmi
