No HDMI signal from your device

I am extending my workspace by adding multiple monitors. My laptop has a HDMI port that works fine however the USB-C port that I connected a USB-C to HDMI adaptor to is not working. All cables are connected correctly (as the system displays all devices connected to the laptop) and the adapter is brand new, but I get an error message stating, "No HDMI signal from your device". HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V7AV) Can someone advise on why I am getting this message?

You need a USB-C port which is also a Thunderbolt port that supports display port output, which your notebook does not have.

Your notebook's USB-C port is for data transfer only.

There are some folks on this forum that may know if this will work for what you want to do.

Amazon has it for a little less.
