HP Pavilion 590-p0055t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Computer power went out today while I was using it.  House power was fine.  Computer would not turn on.  I had to unplug the power cord and Hold the ON button for 10 seconds.  Then plug the  power cord in.  Computer started, but monitor displays "No signal" then monitor goes blank.

I have not changed any hardware or software in months.  This is my daily used computer.  I am diagnosing problem from a backup laptop.

I was using an HDMI cable between computer and monitor.

Switched to a VGI cable and a different monitor, still "No Signal"

HDMI cable and original monitor work fine with my laptop.

Does this sound like a bad video output?

What are my options?

Can I add a new video card to this PC, even though the graphics card is integrated?

Yes.

Yes. Usually, the motherboard will disable the integrated graphics, after it detects that you have added a new video card.

@ORBlackFZ01  consider, that the computer may be a problem, adding a video card, may not change that
If you are no longer under warranty, perhaps consult a professional, do not buy a graphics card for nothing

Thank you very much for your help.  After reading through your post, I realized that I had already put a graphics card in years ago.  When I unplugged all the cables to troubleshoot the initial failure of the computer to power up, I should have taken a photo.  When I plugged the monitor cable back in, I plugged it into the on-board graphics HDMI port instead of the graphics card HDMI port.  It was a stupid mistake!  Lesson learned...hopefully, I will remember it the next time my computer won't turn on.

So, yes, connecting the HDMI to the "active" graphics adapter is a requirement, as you have stated.
