Hello All:
I have an HP Pavillion Gaming Desktop TG01-2260xt. A couple of weeks ago, I was able to connect it to an HP laptop and a portable monitoring using an HDMI connection. However, in the last couple of days, I have tried to connect it to other products and have not been successful in obtaining a signal. These are the connections I have tried-
1. HDMI to TV. I tried connecting it to a Sceptre LCD TV using both a standard non-brand HDMI cable (which was already hooked up to my TV and working) and a Dish Network HDMII cable. I tested the HDMI cables using a Samsung TV and they both worked. I also was able to connect an HDMI cable with a Pavilion P7-1254.
2. Desktop to Computer Monitors. I tried using an old ASUS VH198T monitor (dated April 2010) and then a Samsung SyncMaster SA300 with a Capshi DisplayPort to DVI cable (the DVI part connecting to the monitor and the DisplayPort part to the PC) to try to get the display working but to no avail. They both had no signal.
The desktop does turn on and keyboard and mouse are recognized by the desktop. I just can't get a signal when connecting the device to a monitor. What might be the possible problems. Below are images of my HDMI setup. The first image is of the back of the desktop, while the other three are of the TV setup. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

If understand what you wrote, you connected the output HDMI of a desktop to an HP laptop
Did the laptop have an HDMI input connector?
The laptops I am familiar with only have HDMI output. Some of the HP AIO workstations have HDMI input.
If you connect two laptops together using an HDMI cable it is possible to damage one or both systems.
What do you mean by "portable monitoring" ?

Hello:
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, you are correct. Both the desktop and laptop HDMI ports are output. What I ended up doing was connecting the desktop to a laptop using an HDMI Video Capture Card. One side is for HDMI "input" and the other side is for USB "output." I placed one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI output port on the desktop and the other end into the HDMI Video Capture Card. I then plugged the capture card into the USB port on the laptop. This is how I was able to connect the two together. I had to use a software on the laptop to see the desktop contents.
With regards to the "portable monitoring" piece. That was a typo. I meant to say a "portable monitor." This was a monitor purchased on Amazon for about $100. It is powered by a USB connection.
I hope this helps address your points of clarification on my initial post. Let me know if you need more clarification.

Thanks for clarifying.
I suspect the cable is the problem. If the monitor shows "no signal" check the device manager and see it still shows up. An old Dell laptop showed "generic pnp" but the monitor never saw a signal. The cable worked on other system but I decided to trash it when I tested another cable and it worked well.
Basically your video card made your cable "active" ie: a powered cable.
I never got my surface pro 4 Mini-DP to HDMI to work. Microsoft told me I needed an "active cable" and wanted to sell me one.
I upgraded a GTX1060 to a 1070ti and found the HDMI cable no longer worked when going through a right angle connector and a feed-through. I had to run the cable directly to the TV set. The 1060 did not have that problem. Both adapters somehow caused signal loss.
Unpowered HDMI switches can cause signal loss and DisplayPort to HDMI adapters / cables are not all bi-directional is another gotcha.
Good Luck!
[edit] clarified problem with my SP4 which has since been trashed.
