On an HP laptop, what is the difference in functionality between a touchpad and a clickpad?

In any of the laptops that HP sells at this time, what is the difference in functionality, if any, between a touchpad and a clickpad?

In modern Dell laptops, there is something that looks very much like an HP clickpad -- the mouse buttons are not separate from the mouse-pointer-navigation surface.  On these devices, if you move the mouse pointer exactly where you want it, and then if you try to left click or right click, you must push the button precisely down.  If your thumb or finger slides at all over the "button area", the mouse pointer will move, and you will click the wrong area.

HPs come with either a touchpad or a clickpad.  The difference appears to be that with a touchpad, the left and right buttons are completely separate from the mouse-pointer-navigation surface.

Can anyone tell me whether there is a difference in the functionality between a touchpad and a clickpad?  In particular, is it possible, with either a touchpad or a clickpad, to move the mouse pointer by sliding your thumb or finger over the buttons or over the "button area"?

A TouchPad or ClickPad is a pointing device with a touch-sensitive surface located on the palm rest of the notebook.

TouchPads have a touch-sensitive area bordered by two or more buttons that function like the left and right buttons on an external mouse.

ClickPads have unmarked areas for left and right clicking, instead of discrete buttons like on the TouchPad. To right-click using a ClickPad, press the bottom right corner. To left-click, tap anywhere on the ClickPad, or press the bottom left corner.
