My daughter received M27ha Monitor in 2022as a gift, probably via Amazon. She didn't use it for the first year and in 2023 realized it was non-functional with her Mac. Warranty expired (Oct. 2023) by the time I received it.
Troubleshooting with two Win10 PC's. Power LED lights up and you see for an instant, clear, correct picture and then nothing but black. Seeing that tells me my cables are correct. Also, the speakers work. Monitor power LED stays lit white so it senses an input signal. Repeats if you cycle power either using the power button or disconnecting/reconnecting AC cable. The only instruction in manual for factory reset involves using the menu, which won't display. Tried using both known good (worked with other monitors) HDMI & Display port inputs-same response. If you remove the input cable LED goes red for no signal sensed.
Hate to e-waste what was a brand-new monitor that never worked, but with warranty expired, not sure what if anything I could do to make this POS work. Any ideas? Is this a common occurrence for HP monitors? Is there any kind of replacement board worth trying? Haven't yet tried to open it.

It also flashes video image for an instant when refresh rates are changed: 60 Hz to 50 Hz to 75 Hz etc. Then reverts to black screen. Computer also recognizes the monitor model and assigns it to Display 1-have another LG monitor connected as Display 2.

Hi @jefflat,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
It’s disappointing to have a brand-new monitor exhibit such behavior, especially outside of its warranty period. Based on your description, the issue seems to be hardware-related, likely with the monitor’s internal display circuitry or panel. Here's a step-by-step guide on how you might proceed:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Test with Multiple Devices and Cables:
- You've already tested with both Windows PCs and different cables, so this eliminates the input source or cable as the cause. Well done!
Check Display Settings:
- On the connected PC, ensure the output resolution and refresh rate match the monitor's specifications (1920x1080 @ 60Hz). If the PC sends an unsupported signal, the monitor might briefly display the image and then go black.
Perform a Factory Reset:
- Since the on-screen menu isn't visible, a hard reset may not be possible. Some HP monitors have a physical button combination for resetting. Try holding the Menu button (or similar) for 10+ seconds during power-on, as this might reset the settings to default.
Inspect Power Supply:
- Ensure the monitor’s power adapter and cord are providing stable power. A failing power adapter can cause intermittent display issues.
Test the Monitor in a Dark Room:
- After the screen goes black, shine a flashlight directly onto the screen. If you see a faint image, the backlight has failed, but the panel is still functional.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

I'm having the same issue and with some detective work with a flashlight I can confirm (at least mine) is actually working and displaying a correct picture. But it seems for whatever reason the backlight has failed. As it flashes upon turn on it's not a failure in the light itself so it has to be in the driver circuit / power supply for the backlight. As soon as I figure out how to get it open to get to the board I will know more.

Good Luck with this issue. I ordered 80ish of this model and had the same issue on most of them. We have HP Probooks, HP docking stations, and HP monitors. I have replaced cables, replaced monitors, reset doc, updated firmware, rolled back firmware, updated systems, hard reset the docking station, tried with nothing else plugged into doc, single monitor, dual monitor, HDMI only, Display to HDMI, downloaded HP firmware tool, downloaded HP display control center, updated the driver to the one on HP website, and have added all devices to a UPS to eliminate power being the issue. I have done everything that you could imagine to fix this issue. I have ended up replacing one of my monitors with a competitor and leaving the M27h as the other. Since doing this, the competitor has not malfunctioned once while the HP has continued to have issues. I contacted HP support daily for almost a month. They were no help at all. Every time I call I am told "someone from the next tier will reach out within 24 hrs, and if not I will follow up". I never receive a call. I finally got in touch with an engineer handling our case, and the things he is asking me to do are things that I have already done, and then the communication stopped altogether. I have sent this engineer 4 emails that have been ignored, with his last correspondence being Dec 8, 2023. March 2025 and still having the issue. Assuming HP thinks if they ignore it then it will go away.
