G62 notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Background info: laptop had a half broken screen and was running slow, so I did a hard reset and installed windows 10 64-bit.

Problem: Because my laptop has a broken screen I have to connect it to a monitor, but this doesn't seem to be working anymore. I ran a scan for the problem and the only thing that seems to be wrong is the PCI simple communication controller(error: code 28). I searched this code up on google and it said that the driver is missing. Many drivers that I've tried don't seem to be working even that Intel(R) management engine interface (error: this platform is not supported). pls help... It's so anoying with this screen... :'-(

OK.

Let's take care of the graphics.

First download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

http://www.7-zip.org/

Then download and save but do not run the W7 Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support page.

This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51001-51500/sp51330.exe

Once you have saved the graphics driver, right click on it and select 7-Zip from the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the driver exe file into its folder name (sp51330).

Once that is done, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

Hi:

What processor does your notebook have?  First or second generation Intel core, Pentium?  Full model # please.

Also please post the full model number or product number of your G62.

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Intel i3 350m, I believe that's 1st generation CPU and the laptop is a g62-450EB.

I have already solved the problem with the PCI simple communication controller(I found the correct driver), but still my monitor has no signal...

I know that there isn't anything wrong with my monitor, because i have tested it with a different laptop( and the same cable). The monitor shows up on the "bluetooth and other devices" tab, but doesn't in the device manager.

The only thing I can think of that could make a difference is that the intel mangement engine interface is disabled, however I haven't found any posts on forums saying that IMEI has to do anything with your monitor.

You are correct.

The IMEI would have no bearing on the monitor.

Do you have the graphics driver installed?

If it isn't installed, you will get no output to an external monitor.

If the Intel graphics driver is installed, unfortunately, I wouldn't know why the monitor isn't working.

I was responding to your post regarding the correct IMEI driver to install, which would be this one...

This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems.

I installed the Intel high definition driver and after the installation a message popped up:"The proces does not have access to the file because it is being used by another proces". How can I check it was installed correctly?

HP Recommended

Windows 10 should have automatically installed the Intel HD graphics driver for your model.

Go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters device manager category.

There you should be seeing an Intel HD graphics adapter.

If you see a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter there, then the Intel driver needs to be installed.

You can click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, click on the driver tab, click on Update Driver, select the automatic search, and Windows Update should find, download and install the graphics driver.

If not, let me know, I I will give you the steps to manually install the W7 Intel graphics driver.

HP Recommended

Indeed, the Microsoft Basic Adapter shows up, but I can't connect to wifi because of the half broken screen, I can't see the wifi tab that shows up. So I think I will need to install that windows 7 graphics driver anyway...

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!!

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

Once you can connect to the internet, W10 should do some driver updates and bring you to the final version of the Intel graphics driver for the chipset and processor your notebook has.

If not, I guess it is no big deal since the graphics is working anyway.
