I plugged in my External monitor (27eb) to a HP Spectre 360 with a HDMI cable.
Sometimes the monitor works fine.
other times the middle of the screen is bright but the left and right sides are darker.
If I unplug the HDMI then plug it in again it goes away but about 75% of the time the problem reappears when I turn it back on.
Very rarely has it happened while the machine has been on and is being used.
As i type this I do not have a picture to post but, i will take one the next time it does it.
I have reseated both sides of the HDMI cable which will clear the problem temporarily.
the issue appears to be the monitor and not the laptop since I have turned on the monitor with no laptop connected and have experienced the same problem.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and what i can do to fix it?
Thank you.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand the display is partially dim,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you reset the monitor to factory defaults?
Did you check with an alternate monitor?
While you respond to that, here's a few things you could do:
Let's start with a factory reset:
-
Press the Auto or Autoselect button on the display.
-
Press Menu, and select Factory Reset.
-
If the display has more than one type of connection available such as VGA, DVI, or HDMI, try a different type of connection.
-
Set the video resolution on the computer to match the native resolution of the display. Find the native resolution for your display from the box the display came in, the Monitor User Guide, or product specifications.
If the issue persists, and an alternate monitor works without these issues, Contact HP to set up a service for repair/replacement:
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty repair services under the manufacturer's warranty will be free of charge.

This was taken less than a minute later after reseating the HDMI.
UPDATE:
I spoke with HP support. We factory reset the monitor. Since the reset the problem is worse. The screen error occurs more often. HP support reviewed and offered to replace it under warranty.
Thank you HP Support & the members of this forum.
