HP Pavilion 20bw 20-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor

I have an old monitor (2013) that still works but I lost the power supply.  It lists that the input power is 12V DC.  I could buy a generic power supply to match but I need to know the polarity (positive or negative) of the center pin.  The symbol above it shows a solid horizontal line with 3 short dashes underneath.  Any electrical techs can give me a simple answer?  thanks

@BASICguy2, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

You're on the right track! The symbol you're describing a solid horizontal line over three short dashes, is the standard symbol for DC (Direct Current) power. But to determine polarity, we need to look at another common symbol found near the power input jack, which looks like this:

   — (•—⊕—•)—      +   -

This diagram shows whether the center pin is positive or negative.

For the HP Pavilion 20bw monitor:

The power input is 12V DC, 2A

The center pin is positive (+) — this is confirmed by HP documentation and power adapter labels.

So:

Use a 12V DC power adapter with at least 2A output, center-positive polarity.

Summary:

Voltage: 12V DC

Current: 2A or higher

Connector: Barrel plug (typically 5.5mm outer / 2.1mm or 2.5mm inner diameter)

Polarity: Center-positive (⊕)

If you're buying a generic adapter, just make sure it matches those specs and confirms center-positive polarity, usually indicated on the label like this:

   —(⊕—•—⊖)—

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
