Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂
Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you have an HP 22es 21.5-inch Display monitor and it turns off and on by itself. The monitor displays "VGA: Inactive" when it turns on again. Another monitor works fine when connected to the same computer. Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue by you before posting.
To assist you better, I would like to know the following information:
- When was the last time the monitor works fine?
- Did any updates or changes happen on the computer recently?
- Is the monitor connected via VGA or HDMI? Does the monitor restart using the VGA and HDMI connections?
While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to perform a monitor self test:
- Shutdown the PC and power off the monitor.
- Disconnect the monitor cable from the PC.
- Power on only the monitor and it should display a message saying "check input video", "no input signal", etc. If this message stays up on the screen continuously without the monitor restarting then it indicates that the monitor is fine.
- If the monitor restarts during the self test then it is a hardware issue and you may contact our HP phone support to check the available service options. HP phone support can be reached through this link: www.hp.com/contacthp
If the monitor appears to be fine during the self test then ensure that the resolution on the computer is set to 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz as this is the recommended resolution for this monitor.
Also, you ma install the monitor drivers on your computer via this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75909.exe
Hope this information helps. Let me know the results.
Good luck! 🙂
