HP Pavillion All-in-One 27-xa

Hi, first sorry for my English. I have an "HP Pavilion All-in-One 27-xa" and I don't know why the Num Lock key on the keyboard gets locked or unlocked constantly. Can someone help me? Thanks.

Hi @Pelydas,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Well! not to worry your English is perfectly fine! It sounds like the Num Lock key on your HP Pavilion All-in-One 27-xa is behaving erratically.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

Check for Keyboard Issues:

  • Clean the Keyboard: Sometimes, dust or debris can cause keys to stick. Gently clean around the Num Lock key with compressed air or a soft brush.
  • Test with Another Keyboard: If possible, connect another keyboard to your PC and see if the Num Lock key behaves the same way. This can help determine if the issue is with the keyboard itself.

Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:

  • Update Drivers:
    1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Keyboards section.
    3. Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
    4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the prompts.
  • Reinstall Drivers:
    1. In Device Manager, right-click on your keyboard device and select Uninstall device.
    2. Restart your PC, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Open Control Panel > Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use.
  • Ensure that Turn on Filter Keys and Turn on Toggle Keys are not checked, as these settings can affect keyboard behavior.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Startup Programs: Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with keyboard functions. Try booting your PC in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists.
  • Uninstall Recent Software: If you’ve recently installed new software or updates, try uninstalling them to see if they might be causing the problem.

Perform a System Scan:

  • Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for and repair any corrupted system files:
    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
    3. Wait for the scan to complete and follow any on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.
