I have an HP 2709m monitor connected to my Dell laptop running Windows 11.  Suddenly, after more than a year with no problems, the display from my laptop is just a little taller and wider than fits on the monitor.  I have tried everything I can think of to try to correct the problem.  And unfortunately, the monitor no longer appears in any current HP Support drop downs.  Does anyone have a suggestion, or is it time for a new monitor 🙂 ?

@jldavisak, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're describing, where the display from your Dell laptop running Windows 11 is slightly too large for your HP 2709m monitor, is typically caused by overscan or incorrect resolution/scaling settings. Even though the HP 2709m is an older model, it should still work fine with Windows 11 once the settings are adjusted.

Here are some steps to help you fix it:

Check Display Resolution

Make sure your laptop is outputting the native resolution of the HP 2709m monitor:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Display resolution.
  • Set it to 1920 x 1080 (Recommended), this is the native resolution of the HP 2709m.

Adjust Scaling Settings

  • In the same Display settings window, check Scale and layout.
  • Set Scaling to 100% to avoid any stretching or cropping.

Check Graphics Driver Settings

If you're using Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD graphics, open the respective control panel:

For Intel:

  • Open Intel Graphics Command Center or Intel HD Graphics Control Panel.
  • Go to Display > General Settings.
  • Ensure resolution is set to 1920x1080.
  • Look for Scaling options and set it to Maintain Display Scaling or Custom Aspect Ratio.

For NVIDIA:

  • Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Go to Display > Adjust desktop size and position.
  • Under Scaling, choose No scaling or Aspect ratio.
  • Apply the changes.

For AMD:

  • Open AMD Radeon Settings.
  • Go to Display > Scaling Mode.
  • Choose Preserve Aspect Ratio or Full Panel depending on what fits best.

Check Monitor Settings

Use the buttons on the monitor to access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu:

  • Look for settings like Auto Adjust, Image Control, or Scaling.
  • Run Auto Adjust to let the monitor recalibrate the image.
  • If available, reset the monitor to Factory Defaults.

Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated drivers can cause display issues:

  • Visit Dell Support and enter your laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest graphics drivers for Windows 11.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
