HP Slim 290
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The card is not registering on device manager, and when I try to install drivers it can find the gpu. The card is installed to the motherboard and the led is lit up.

@TyEv129

Welcome to the HP Forums,

We'll be with you until it's all sorted & beyond!

Is this a new graphics card you've connected to the device?

  • If yes, Did you ensure it's compatible with your device?
  • If not, could you include the product number or full model name so I can identify your device?

While you respond to that, here's what you may want to do:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

  4. Click Extensive Test.

  5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

  6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

  7. Or simply write back to us and I'll help you out.

Let me know how that pans out,

That said, I will have someone follow-up on this to ensure you've been helped,

Just in case you don't get back to us within 24 - 48hrs, and have a good day, ahead.

I'm running the test you told me to right now, it's an HP Slim Desktop 290-p0043w. Thank you for replying.

A lot of those cards require a 400w PSU minimum. I'm fairly sure you have 180W PSU. I wonder if that could be the cause.

HP Recommended

It is  180, but i'm running the graphics card on a different power supply, which is only 250, but everywhere i've read the power supply shouldn't affect its ability to be seen or connected too. Only the effectiveness of the card.

Are you running two PSU's ?

Drawing more power than a PSU can provide risks a whole lot more than the "effectiveness" of your GPU. You risk blowing the PSU and possibly doing extensive damage.

HP Recommended

Yes, I had to run secondary PSU because I didn't have enough connections.
