My factory fitted AMD Radeon HD 6850 card has failed and I am looking for a replacement grapics card that is compatible with my h9-1020a HP hardware.
I have a standatd h9-1020a system with a HP w2207h monitor. IPISB-CH2 motherboard, Intel core i7 2600, PCI express 16, 600 watt power supply. The AMD card also utilises an auxilliary power supply.
I have tried a MSI Geforce GTX 950 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 card but the system wont go past the hp bios boot up screen and I do not get access to the bios setup menu.
I am seeking a recommendation for a new graphics card that will work with this hp system.
Thank you.

Your PC cannot use Nvidia 700, 900, or 1000 series graphics cards. These cards usually require a UEFI BIOS.
Your PC has an older "Legacy BIOS".
Sapphire makes some AMD cards that have a Legacy/UEFI switch on the card. MSI makes similar AMD items. MSI also offers a n Nvidia GTX 750Ti with this switch. These cards cannot run on a PCIe x16 1.0.
You should be able to install, and I recommend you look at, the Nvidia 600 series graphics cards. The 600 cards work on a Legacy BIOS. The qualification to this statement is personal experience with an h8 HP PC. I could not install any graphics card in this PC that was not on the HP list of supported graphics cards. This may or may not apply in your situation.
Other conditions for a successful upgrade:
1. Adequate power supply and required supplemental PCIe power connectors.
2. The graphics card fits in the chassis.
3. The graphics card you purchase is compatible with a PCIe x16 1.0 slot. This condition precludes considering the Sapphire or MSI options described above. Those cards are only backwards compatible with PCIe x16 2.0 slots.

Your key features GRZY are the heart of the challenge. I have tried my local computer parts shop and they do not have a card in their vast range that hits the features. They suggested I try HP which I had not thought of with the PC being out of warranty. I did try HP and they did have a replacement card in their inventory and have supplied the replacement/new card withihn a few days. I installed the new card tonight and the system is working perfectly.
Thank you for your suggestions.
