HP Elite Desk
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have 6 HP elite desks that have the entire monitor go black for about 2 seconds and then turn back. This is happening during regular use and about once every 20 min to an hour for all of these devices. I have updated all drivers, windows and other software. The anti-virus has been uninstalled and I have physically cleaned the inside, and the problem is still the same.

Thanks for the help,

Kyle

Hi Kcorral!

We are experiencing the same issues with multiple EliteDesk devices.

What I have found to be effective is to downgrade to the latest supported driver from HP. The driver from Windows Update seems to be the issue here, so downgrading and disabling automatic updates on the Device ID's in Group Policy Editor have solved the issue.

It is not a viable solution though that this blocks future supported driver updates as well.

Best regards

Brian

Are your PCs the Mini style?  We just went through this with a few HP ED G3 Mini's.  The issue turned out to be the external AC adapter being under powered.  Most of these models come with a 65W AC adapter and they worked fine with Windows 7.  Since upgrading these PCs to Windows 10, the flicker problem started.  After much troubleshooting with Support, them replacing the system board, then the CPU and another 65W AC adapter and no change in behavior, we connected one of the three Mini's to a 90W adapter.  The problem vanished.  The two models that we typically sell/support are the 6YH46UT, which comes with a 65W adapter, and the 6VG84UT, which come with a 90W adapter.  We have had zero problems with the units that come with the 90W adapters.  We cannot convince Support that this is something they should fix with a replacement 90W adapter, so we are having to purchase new HP adapters, but I'm happy to have the problem resolved (not happy that HP won't help).

Hi WesH2

Yes, they are the mini style ED's.

I'll definitely have to look into this. I did not even consider this to be an option. If it works to replace one, that could be the reason why the error is not affecting everyone.

I finally came around to checking the AC adapters on these units, and they turned out be 90W, so unfortunately I still have no explanation, other than faulty drivers.

Brian,

Is your ED Mini a G3 or newer G4/5?  All of our G3's came with the 65W adapters.
