I've had an issue with my laptop for around two weeks where the screen flickers, but not all of the time. I can start it and the HP logo will flicker but then the login screen/everything else is just fine. Unless I turn the brightness up or my laptop gets a little warm. If I play anything I can barely see with how bad it's flickering. I've done all sorts of diagnostic tests, tried to update drivers, the diagnostics itself, checked to see if there are cables loose, cleaned the dust out, started in safe mode to uninstall or update drivers (still flickers there), it flickers with the task manager open, restarted the whole laptop, etc. It says that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. Or anything in general. I really don't want to have to take it in but it seems like that's the only thing I can do at this point.
*The issue randomly started while I was playing a game and then I turned the brightness up which caused my screen to start flickering really bad.

Hi @JadenMae,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already gone through several troubleshooting steps, which is great for narrowing down the issue. Here are a few more things you could try before considering taking it in for repair.
- Check Power Settings: Sometimes power settings can affect screen brightness and cause flickering. Make sure your power plan settings are optimized and try adjusting the brightness settings.
- Update BIOS: Sometimes updating the laptop's BIOS can resolve display issues, including flickering. Make sure you have the latest BIOS version from HP's support website and follow their instructions to update it.
- Check for Magnetic Interference: Ensure there are no magnetic sources near your laptop, as they can sometimes interfere with the screen.
- External Display Test: If possible, connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the flickering occurs there as well. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop screen itself or with the graphics hardware.
- Graphics Driver Rollback: Instead of just updating, try rolling back the graphics driver to a previous version. Sometimes the latest driver version can introduce compatibility issues.
- Hardware Check via HP Support Assistant: Use HP Support Assistant (if available) to run more thorough hardware diagnostics. It might detect issues that standard diagnostics overlook.
- Check for Loose Components: Although you mentioned checking cables, it might also be worth reseating the RAM and hard drive (if accessible). Sometimes loose components can cause intermittent issues.
- Temperature Monitoring: Keep an eye on the laptop's temperature while using it. Overheating can sometimes cause screen flickering. Use tools like HWMonitor to check temperature readings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
