HP OmniStudio X 31.5 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 32-c0000 ICTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

New desktop running windows 11 home, screen keeps dimming after waking up and I have to constantly raise the brightness back up to previous setting. Tried everything in the book to resolve but no joy. Only thing I can think of in the brightness setting slide it shows (adjust the brightness of the external display). All presence setting is disabled. Power setting is set to performance.
I have an All in One there is no external display. I have a dedicated Nvidia RTX 4050 graphics card with intel Arc Graphics integrated. Any help would be appreciated before I decide to return it.

@Desertmech65, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We are sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing. This kind of auto-dimming issue can be hard to pin down, especially on hybrid GPU systems like yours (NVIDIA + Intel Arc). Since you’ve already tried the usual power and presence detection settings, let’s dig deeper into both Windows, Intel, and NVIDIA-specific settings that can cause unwanted screen dimming, even on an all-in-one like the HP OmniStudio X.

Try the Following Solutions

Check Intel Graphics Command Center (IGCC)

Even though your display is built-in, Windows may be treating it like an external panel due to the AIO design. Intel’s power-saving features can still apply.

  • Open Intel Graphics Command Center (install it from Microsoft Store if needed).
  • Go to System > Power.
  • Disable the following if present:
    Display Power Saving Technology
    Adaptive Brightness
  • Go to Display > Color and ensure no auto-adjustments are enabled.

Disable Adaptive Brightness in Registry (if not exposed in GUI)

Sometimes adaptive brightness is hidden in UI but active in the background.

  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\Display\igfxcui\profiles\media\Brighten Movie

  • Change ProcAmpBrightness to 0.
  • Also check:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation

  • Set Enable to 0 (if present).

Check NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

While NVIDIA typically doesn’t control brightness, G-SYNC, Battery Boost, or Color settings may be involved.

  • Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Adjust desktop color settings.
  • Set "Use NVIDIA settings" instead of "Other applications control color settings".
  • Make sure brightness/contrast/gamma are set manually.
  • Also check 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > Power Management Mode:

Set to Prefer maximum performance.

Disable Windows “Content Adaptive Brightness”

Even if you’ve disabled Presence and Power settings, CABC (Content Adaptive Brightness Control) may still run.

  • Go to Settings > System > Display.
  • Click on Brightness, and if you see “Change brightness automatically when lighting changes” — turn it off.

If that option is missing, run this in Command Prompt (Admin):

powercfg -attributes SUB_VIDEO ADAPTBRIGHTNESS  -ATTRIB_HIDE

Then check Power Options > Display > Enable Adaptive Brightness, and disable it for both On Battery and Plugged In.

Check OEM Utility / HP Support Assistant

Some HP All-in-Ones come with HP Display Control or HP Adaptive Lighting built-in. These might override Windows.

Open HP Support Assistant > My Devices > Display or Power Settings

Look for any setting related to:

  • Adaptive display
  • Dynamic contrast
  • Ambient light sensor

Check if the Display is misrecognized as "external"

Go to Device Manager > Monitors and make sure it only lists:

  • Generic PnP Monitor or something related to your AIO screen.
If there's a secondary or external monitor listed, right-click > Uninstall device, then reboot.

If all else fails, I recommend doing a clean installation of the Intel and NVIDIA drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode, then reinstall from HP's website to ensure the correct hardware detection (not just generic drivers).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I think because my brightness box shows that I have an external monitor none of things you mentioned to check were available to me to change. Even the command admin prompt line you mentioned to enter wasn't recognized.
I just received this desktop from HP store and I can't see doing a clean install is going to fix much. I agree that there might be a setting or conflict somewhere between the 2 graphics adaptors but should be a way to resolve without re-installing the operating system this early after a purchase.

@Desertmech65, Thank you for your response.
You're absolutely right, not ideal to start off a brand-new PC by doing a clean install. And yes, the fact that Windows shows the brightness slider as "adjust the brightness of the external display" is a major clue: your system is incorrectly identifying the built-in AIO screen as an external monitor, which disables a lot of brightness and power management features in Windows and both graphics control panels.

Let's try these steps,

Force the display to be recognized as internal via Device Manager

Let’s clean up the display detection layer without reinstalling anything.

Steps:

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager)
  2. Expand Display Adapters
You should see Intel Arc Graphics and NVIDIA RTX 4050.
  3. Expand Monitors
Likely it says Generic Non-PnP Monitor or some external monitor name.
  4. Right-click each monitor entry > Uninstall device (don’t worry; it will come back).
  5. Go to Display Adapters, right-click both Intel and NVIDIA > Uninstall device (check the box to delete the driver if prompted).
  6. Reboot your PC.

After reboot:

  • Windows will reinstall basic drivers and often correctly re-identify the display as internal (PnP).

Then:

  • Go to Settings > Display and see if the brightness slider now says “Adjust brightness level” (without the external monitor note).
  • Recheck Intel Graphics Command Center and see if the power/brightness options appear.

Check HP Support Assistant or MyHP App

  • Launch HP Support Assistant or MyHP (comes preinstalled)
  • Look under Display, Power, or Startup settings
  • Disable anything related to:
  1. Auto brightness
  2. Dynamic contrast
  3. Adaptive display

Update the BIOS and Firmware

Since this is a brand-new model (HP OmniStudio X), it's possible the BIOS or display firmware needs an update for proper GPU/display enumeration.

Visit HP Software & Driver Downloads

Enter your product: HP OmniStudio X 32-c0000 ICTO Base Model

Download and install:

  • Latest BIOS
  • Intel and NVIDIA drivers (from HP) — these are tested against the AIO hardware and should restore proper display recognition.
  • Display firmware, if available.

Next Steps

Try the Device Manager cleanup first—it often resets how the system identifies displays without harming anything. If that fails, BIOS and HP software are next best bets without reinstalling anything.

I hope this helps!
