HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp3000 (799U9AV)

What is the small white rectangular area at the extreme top of the display screen?. (see top screengrab)

When I move my browser window to the top of the screen this white rectangular area then shows eight small groups of grey rectangles, with the two groups on the left including a HP logo. (see bottom screengrab)

Hi @blinkybob, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
This is the Windows Snap Layouts feature. It appears when you drag a window (such as your browser) to the top of the screen in Windows 11.

Explanation:

  • The white rectangular area with grey rectangles represents different window arrangement options.
  • The two groups on the left with the HP logo indicate that HP software or an HP-related customization that may be influencing the Snap Layouts.

What You Can Do:

  • Choose a Layout: Hover over or click on one of the grey sections to snap your window into that layout.
  • Disable Snap Layouts (if unwanted): Go to Settings > System > Multitasking, then toggle off "Snap windows."

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

What could be causing a persistent white screen or white area at the top of an HP notebook display, and how can you tell if it's a graphics driver, display cable, or hardware issue when troubleshooting?
