Thanks very much for your quick reply. I've been very impressed with HP customer support, regarding this PC (I had problems with driver updates that had been pushed by the HP servers, but failed to install correctly).
With regard to the touchpad, the problems are several. The pointer itself seems to disappear occasionally (I find it by tapping the screen), and the absence of delineated mouse-click areas on the touchpad makes the select options difficult. Often, options seem to select themselves, and I find myself dragging things on the desktop that I did not select.
The problems seem unique to the touchpad. With an external mouse, I have no problems.
I'm not sure what you mean by trying it on the BIOS screen, since that screen apparently only works with the arrow-cursor buttons (no mouse-based movement is recognized on any BIOS screen I've encountered over the decades).
I thought I might be able to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad (particularly the click areas), but I see no option for doing that on this computer with this OS (the HP help site does have instructions for Spectre laptops running Windows 8).
Thanks again for your reply. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. This really is a great piece of hardware, except for this annoying touchpad issue).

Hi @ksnow, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @Riddle_Decipher, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.
I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.
Please uninstall the touchpad drivers from device manager on your PC and install the latest touchpad drivers.
Update the touchpad drivers from 19.0.12.95 to 19.0.12.98 and check if it helps.
Also, update the BIOS on your PC.
Please update the touchpad drivers using this link.
If the issue still persists, update the touchpad drivers from Synaptics website directly.
Let me know if this works!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

I checked the version of the Synaptics driver and the ver number does not correspond to either one you mentioned. When I used the Device Manager to update the driver, Windows reported that I'm using the current version.
The link you provided was an executable file, which I didn't click. Please provide a link to a url where that exe file resides.
Thanks.

@ksnow, thanks for your quick response and time.
I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
The driver I have recommended in my previous thread is an updated version of synaptic drivers installed on your PC.
So please update the drivers and check if it helps.
Also, you can download the file from Synaptics website directly and download the zip file using this link.
Extract the file using winzip or winrar you will get the .exe file.
Let me know if it works!
Take Care! 🙂
