Hi @Joe4443,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding disabling the on-screen keyboard on the HP Chromebase 21.5-inch All-in-One Desktop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Access the Chrome OS Settings:

  • Click on the clock in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open the system tray.
  • Click on the gear icon to access the settings menu.

Navigate to Accessibility Settings:

  • In the settings menu, scroll down and click on "Advanced" to expand more options.
  • Under "Accessibility," click on "Manage accessibility features."

Disable On-Screen Keyboard:

  • Scroll to the "Keyboard and text input" section.
  • Find the "Enable on-screen keyboard" option and toggle it off.

Restart Your Device:

  • Restart your Chromebase to ensure the changes are applied correctly.

I hope this helps.

No advanced to expand more options available. Toggling off does not restrict onscreen keyboard. Thanks for attempt to solve.

Hi @Joe4443,

Thank you for letting me know, I see why that didn’t work for you. Let’s try a few extra steps depending on whether you’re using Windows or Chrome OS, since your first note mentioned “signing in to sites and ”startup”, this often happens on Windows PCs too.

If you’re using Windows:

Turn off On-Screen Keyboard in Ease of Access:

Press Windows + R → type control → Enter.

Go to Ease of Access Center → Click Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard.

Make sure Use On-Screen Keyboard is unchecked → Click ApplyOK.

Disable Touch Keyboard Service (optional):

Press Windows + R → type services.msc → Enter.

Find Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service in the list.

Double-click it → Set Startup type to Disabled → Click Stop → OK.

Disable it at Sign-In:

Press Windows + R → type regedit → Enter (be careful when editing the registry).

Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI

Find ShowTabletKeyboard → If it exists, set its value to 0. If it doesn’t exist, you can skip this.

If you’re using Chrome OS (Chromebook or Chromebase):

Try this hidden trick:

Go to chrome://settings/accessibility directly in your Chrome browser.

Make sure Enable on-screen keyboard is off.

Then, open the Chrome OS Shelf (bottom-right clock) → Accessibility → Make sure On-screen keyboard is unchecked there too, sometimes toggling it off here sticks better.

I hope this helps.
