Touch screen no longer responding to touch. 

 

Have tried ALL the remedies on HP Assist, and HP sites.  Have followed other cases on this site, noting this has been the experience of others, and yes... all to no avail.

 

Related Symptoms: 

  - Just updated UEFI has no diagnostic option for Touch Screen

  - Windows DM has a USB device failing HW  ID retrieval, and thus not enumerating

  - No HID device for a touch screen.

Can we conclude this is busted hardware?   If so, this machine is out of warranty, so I'll just "eat it".  Screen still has decent picture.

If the UEFI diags are not showing 'Touch Screen' as an available test, then the system is not detecting that there is a TS there. So yes, this is usually faulty hardware.

The only other thing you could look at is to make sure the that the INTERNAL USB ports are NOT disabled (under the security tab in BIOS)

Thanks for the tip. 

 

So I re-booted into BIOS (which was just updated as well) and found the USB Security setting.  Regretfully it is Enabled. 

 

So the conclusion seems to be malfunctioned touch controller hardware.   Presuming this touch controller is truly a USB device (on that internal host bus), it would consist of a specialized micro-controller.  When a USB device fails to return it's IDs to the host controller (step 1 of enumeration), it suggests damaged port pin, or corrupted firmware in the controller. 

 

Regardless- not the kind of problem that can be fixed without taking the All-in-One apart... and raising the ire of my wife who uses this computer.
