@Gwendolyn38893, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the touchscreen not working!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It looks like your HP Chromebook 11-v031nr is experiencing a touchscreen issue, and the system is identifying the touchscreen hardware with an error code (0x007b) and mentioning "Elan," which is likely referring to the Elan touchscreen controller.

1. Restart Your Chromebook

  • Hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown.
  • Turn it back on and check if the touchscreen responds.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the Chromebook.
  • Press and hold Refresh (↻) + Power for about 10 seconds.
  • Release the buttons and let the Chromebook restart.

3. Check for Chrome OS Updates

  • Open Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart the Chromebook.

4. Test the Touchscreen in Chrome Developer Mode

  • Open Chrome browser and type: chrome://diagnostics
  • Look for Touchscreen Test to check if it's being detected.

5. Re-enable the Touchscreen via Terminal

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open Crosh (Chrome OS Terminal).
  • Type the following command and press Enter: xinput list
  • If your touchscreen is listed but disabled, enable it using: xinput enable [device ID]
  • (Replace [device ID] with the number assigned to the touchscreen.)

6. Powerwash (Factory Reset) as a Last Resort

  • Backup your data first!
  • Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the Chromebook.

Let me know if you need help with any step! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
