Trying to add a new monitor which will be the second monitor. Using a VGA adapter because my desktop does not have hdmi ports. Old monitor is working but new is showing error: input signal not found - check the video cable and video source.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c01959720
It has VGA and DVI ports at its back. I believe your existing monitor uses DVI port therefore the second monitor must use VGA port. What is the adapter because from VGA to HDMI is from analog to digital, you need a converter.
The best option is to use VGA to VGA for second monitor because you already use 1 digital port. Machine may ONLY support one digital and one analog, it is more than 10 years old now.
Regards.
