I have an HP Pavilion laptop and I would like to connect to an HP Laptop Pavilion to use as a second screen.  They both have HDMI  ports and USB ports.  Not sure if they are HDMI in or out ports.  I was able to wirelessly project one screen to the other and it worked but not sure that's the best process to go through every time.  For example, after the main laptop went into sleep, it dropped the projection.  I was using a very old ViewSonic monitor and was hoping for better quality visual and larger screen.  I am not a gamer, just like the 2 screens for work and home stuff.  Thank you.

Wifi projection has noticeable lag even on a game like solitaire.  It is convenient to use and works fine for stills, videos, podcast , etc so it has its place.

You will have to disable sleep.  To simplify the procedure you could create a new user login.  The login would not allow sleep and could be configure to go directly into the wifi connect mode.

On the other hand, depending on your location,  you might be able to get a used HDMI 2k display at goodwill for under $20 USD.
