Hi @Holly1959,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure your computer is not set to a power-saving mode that might reduce screen brightness. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and check if the current plan is balanced or high performance.

Adjust Brightness Settings:

  • Double-check the brightness settings in Windows. Sometimes the quick-access slider may not reflect actual settings; try changing the brightness using the function keys on your keyboard (usually FN + a sun icon key).

Update Graphics Driver:

  • Outdated graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the HP website or use HP Support Assistant to check for driver updates for your graphics card.

Disable Adaptive Brightness:

  • If adaptive brightness is enabled, it can cause your display to dim automatically. You can disable it by going to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Look for Display and then Enable adaptive brightness, and set it to off.

Check the Display Connection:

  • If using an external monitor, ensure that all cables are securely connected. If possible, test the monitor with another computer to eliminate monitor issues.

Reset BIOS Defaults:

  • Sometimes resetting the BIOS to default settings can remedy hardware-related issues. Restart your computer, enter the BIOS setup (typically by pressing F10 at the startup), and reset settings to default.

I hope this helps.
