Hi there!
I got a brand new HP Spectre x360 16" aa0000 and the webcam is causing major troubles.
It only works sporadically, maybe once every 5-7 reboots, and then stops working after the next reboot.
Device manager says the webcam is working flawlessly. I really don't know what to do now. I require you folks assistance!
Thank you!

Hi @LewdLouis,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing a webcam issue on your new HP Spectre x360 can indeed be frustrating, especially when it works intermittently and then stops functioning after a reboot despite Device Manager indicating it's working correctly. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:
1. Check for Driver Updates
- Go to the HP website or use HP Support Assistant (if pre-installed) to check for any updated drivers for your webcam or any related hardware.
- Sometimes, manufacturers release updated drivers to fix compatibility issues with newer operating systems like Windows 11.
2. Windows Update
- Ensure that your Windows 11 is up to date. Microsoft often releases patches and updates that include fixes for various device compatibility and performance issues.
3. Privacy Settings
- In Windows 11, privacy settings can affect how apps access your webcam. Make sure that the app you are using to test the webcam has permission to access the camera.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and ensure that camera access is allowed for the apps you're using.
4. Check for App-Specific Issues
- Test the webcam with different apps (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Camera app) to see if the issue persists across all of them. This can help determine if the problem is app-specific.
5. BIOS Update
- Sometimes, BIOS updates can resolve hardware-related issues. Check HP's website for any BIOS updates available for your laptop model and follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.
6. Reset Camera App (if applicable)
- If you're using the Camera app from the Microsoft Store, you can try resetting it. Right-click on the Camera app > App settings > Reset.
7. Hardware Check
- If the issue persists after checking drivers and software settings, it could indicate a hardware problem. Contact HP Support for further assistance, especially if your laptop is still under warranty.
Additional Tips:
- Power Settings: Sometimes, power-saving settings can affect hardware. Check your power settings and ensure they are not overly aggressive.
- Antivirus or Firewall: Temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall to see if they might be blocking the camera.
