Hi @JirkaKotas

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the webcam on your HP 740pm monitor is out of focus, there are a few potential solutions you can try to resolve the issue. Since built-in webcams typically don’t have manual focus adjustments, you might be able to resolve the problem with software or settings adjustments.

1. Check for Automatic Focus Features

Some webcams have an automatic focus feature that might not be functioning properly. Check if the webcam's software allows you to adjust the focus or settings.

  • Open Camera App or Webcam Software:
    • On Windows, you can open the Camera app by searching for "Camera" in the Start menu.
    • Try adjusting any settings related to focus if available (e.g., in the Camera settings or app settings).

2. Update Webcam Drivers

Outdated drivers can cause issues with webcam functionality, including focus problems.

  • Update Webcam Drivers:
    1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Imaging Devices section.
    3. Right-click on your webcam device (e.g., HP Webcam or similar) and choose Update Driver.
    4. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install any updates.

3. Check for Camera Lens Obstructions

Ensure there are no physical obstructions on the camera lens, such as dirt, smudges, or fingerprints, which could cause the image to be out of focus.

  • Clean the Lens:
    • Use a microfiber cloth to gently clean the lens of the webcam. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

4. Check Camera Settings in Apps (e.g., Zoom, Skype)

If you're using your webcam with third-party apps (like Zoom, Skype, etc.), some of these apps have built-in settings that can affect focus.

  • Adjust Camera Settings in the App:
    1. Open the app you’re using for video calls (e.g., Zoom, Skype).
    2. Go to Settings and look for Video or Camera settings.
    3. Look for options like video filters, focus, or brightness settings that could be affecting the image quality.

5. Test in Different Applications

Sometimes, the issue might be specific to a particular app. Try testing the webcam in different applications (e.g., Skype, Zoom, Teams) or using it in the Camera app on Windows.

6. Reinstall the Webcam Driver

If updating the driver didn’t help, you might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the webcam driver:

  • Reinstall Webcam Driver:
    1. Open Device Manager again.
    2. Right-click your webcam under Imaging Devices and select Uninstall device.
    3. Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver for the webcam.

I hope this helps.
