Hi @nesta13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The laptop powers on, the touch still responds, and an external monitor works fine, but the built‑in screen stays black after the update. That points strongly to a display driver or firmware conflict rather than a total hardware failure.

Here’s how you can tackle it:

🔧 Fixes to Try

1. Boot into Safe Mode

Restart the laptop → press F11 or hold Shift + Restart → choose Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Safe Mode.

If the internal screen works in Safe Mode, the issue is almost certainly the graphics driver.

2. Reinstall Graphics Drivers

In Safe Mode, open Device Manager → Display Adapters.

Right‑click Intel UHD/Iris driver → Uninstall device (check “Delete driver software”).

Restart and let Windows reinstall a clean driver, or download the latest from Official HP® Support.

3. Roll Back the Update

If the problem started immediately after a BIOS or Windows update:

Windows Update rollback: Settings → Update & Security → View update history → Uninstall updates.

BIOS rollback: HP BIOS has a recovery option (press Windows + B while powering on with the AC adapter connected).

4. Disable Fast Startup

Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do → Uncheck Turn on fast startup.

This prevents black‑screen conflicts during boot.

5. Check Display Settings

Connect external monitor → right‑click desktop → Display settings.

Ensure the laptop screen isn’t disabled or set to “Second screen only.”

6. HP Diagnostics

Restart → press ESC repeatedly → choose F2 System Diagnostics.

Run the Display Test to confirm the panel itself is healthy.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
